Cappuccino is a drink of Italian origin consisting of espresso coffee and foamed milk.

In Italy, the country where it is most popular, it is traditionally consumed during the morning, at breakfast or afterwards, never during meals.

PreparationIt is usually drunk sweetened, often accompanied by croissants or other bakery or pastry products.

A cappuccino usually consists of about 125 ml milk and 25 ml coffee.

The foam (or rather cream) must be good-looking and in abundant quantity. Sometimes a sprinkling of cocoa and cinnamon powder is added to complete it.

There are many variations in the world. In Italy, the main variations are dark cappuccino and light cappuccino. Lately adding to the aesthetics of the cappuccino are the modern techniques of art coffee or latte art, with which it is possible to decorate it with designs made with milk briquettes or hand tools.

The espresso machines needed to achieve the characteristic cappuccino effect only became widespread in the early 20th century, with the first patent issued to Luigi Bezzera in 1901.
